I went out yesterday. The winds were not too bad first thing in the morning so I started out in the back of Pigeon. Nothing was happening there and I wasn’t marking anything so I moved to Hunters landing area. The birds were working but no fish were breaking. I caught cats and perch vertical Jigging. I stuck around for awhile throwing a Jerk bait and a sea shad with no luck. Started working my way back to the spits and shut down on the bluff wall around pea hump. There was another boat about a quarter mile from me working the point at the end of the bluff wall closest towards Stubbs Bridge. He was just sitting in one spot vertical jigging and about every 5 to 10 minutes he would catch a striper. I kept my distance as not to try and spoil his good time so I fished all around the area and covered pea hump pretty thoroughly. I managed to catch one small striper and a crappie and after about an hour or so I was invited to come in and share the fun. He said that he found them feeding earlier and had been wearing them out for the last hour or two. By the time he invited me over the winds really kicked in and it was fruitless to try and stay over them. I stayed out until about 5:PM trying to get “just one more” but it was pointless to do so. Nothing more the rest of the day.
This time last year catching 8 to 10 lb stripers around Hunters landing and Dillard’s bridge was a no brainer but not so this year; at least for me. I haven’t ventured any further back than that and fishing down lake for me is another pointless endeavor unless its dike three.
Thanks guys!
