Was on the water around 7:15 and headed for Pigeon creek. Noticed a lot of birds about 1/2 way down the creek. There was one other boat. Cut the motor and began trolling in about 17' of water throwing a 1/2oz jig head with a sassy shad. After about 10 casts - landed a 18" striper and thought today was going to be the day.....Another 10 cast or so and I belly hooked a 10 inch Shad (I think)...trolled up and down the creek on both sides throwing the sassy shad and jerkbait, but no more bites. Headed up to n Anna past Christopher Run to the bridge. Saw all kinds of bait fish fill up my fish finder with birds squawking and diving everywhere and began using a jigging sthingy. I must of caught (snagged) 20+ bait fish, but nothing else. I've only been fishing for Stripers for a couple of years - so I'm not sure if my technique is incorrect or not. Any pointers would be great. Saw some other boats and didn't see them landing fish either. Was a nice day though. Water temps were 47 - 48.........

gman, sounds like your technique is good to me. I'm not a expert at Striper fishing neither. But have caught a few the way you were fishing. This season has been way off for the Striper's and not real sure why?? I have been Striper fishing on Anna for about 6 years and this has been a real bad season. But every year is different. Keep trying and good fishing.

i had the same type of action a couple of weeks ago...lots of birds, bait, and no big fish just past the splits...although the last week of december i spent the hour before sunset at dam 3 casting sassy shads on 18" stripers.. and landed 9 fish all the same size..seems like the fish don't like the new year..
