Because I won't be posting a fishing report on my site till next week I thought I'd throw you guys some nuggets. Well guys I got my year started this Saturday out on the lake. We found bass staging in the back one third of coves that had well defined creek channels. This pattern held together at mid-lake but fell apart as we headed down lake. We used a gold xr-50 lipless crank made by X-Calibur cranked real slow along the channel in about 10-feet of water making contact with stumps and other cover. Biggest bass was a 5-pounder caught by my client. Saw alot of bass on the depth finder suspending just outside these areas. This week should be a good week if Mother Nature doesn't get an attitude. Nice fish.
The last two weekends tournament fish have been very impressive. Does anyone have any info of baits, presentaitons, and general section of the lake all of the limits are coming from? Are they fishing striclty planted brushpiles? Any help greatly appreciated.

JJ: Really haven't paid much attention where these guys have been fishing. My best guess based on the bite Saturday would mid and down lake. Very few will tell you what they're throwing. This is a very normal pre-spawn season because of the cold winter that we had and that groups the bass nicely on key staging areas like points, channel drops (where I got them sat.) and planted brush. The key is to have deep water nearby so that they can retreat post front like Sun. The guys that are weighing big stringers are locating these staging fish. When I very first started fishing competitively at the tender age of 19 I chased around trying to find out what the other guys were throwing and it got me nowhere. I finally figured out that there was no magic lure. So I developed my own style of fishing i.e. Power Fishing that revolves around versatility i.e. falling back on smaller lures light line slower presentations(finesse fishing). Figure out what you're strong suit is and build on that and you'll build a complement of lures that you will rely on I garantee you'll be proud of it. If you have questions don't hesitate to contact me.
Mike: the temp was 46 to 48...the bite was actually mixed my fish just laid down on the bait like a carolina Rig bite which is typical for that lipless crank bite at this time of year however my client had one ripped his...his big fish hit hard as well. All the fish came out of 8 to 10 feet of water.

Teddy, thanks for the info. I have always had trouble catching/locating fish in early march. Much appreciated.
