I've only been out once on the Potomac - we put in at a park off Int 95 and Rt 123. I have a 17' Tracker with a 50hp and felt fairly comfortable. That part of the river however seemed dirty - lots of logs (trees) spare tires, and shopping carts on the shoreline - where would you recommend a good spot to launch and fish? I understand it gets pretty busy out there - but I also here there are some creeks where the fishing is great, and the Bassmaster Elite series last year proved fish are in there...

Hey Gman sounds like a lot of good structure though - kidding - sad to see some of that. From what I understand teddy Carr on here may be able to help as well as some others. I think Teddy fishes it a good bit.
Been eyeing the new 170 Tracker with the 50HP.

It's a good little Boat - it's my first and has all the bells and whistles I need, it's easy to tow, does about 34 mph, and the motor stars first time every time (it can handle a 75hp). I went with the aluminum because I take it to Canada with me to river fish and I'd much rather have a dent than a hole in fiberglass. The changes they made this year - more deck space, storage, and driver space, plus cup holders, fold down center seat are nice additions...It's also priced right for all that are standard features. I added a Eagle fish finder for the console and moved the hummingbird up front....

Hey G,
Great boat you have there. But on the Potomac make sure you know your limitations when the wind kicks up. The Occoquan where you launched is a very good fishery; I tend to fish it a lot during the late summer. One of the better creeks you want to check out would be Aquia down south. The trash is definitely an eye sore but don't sweat the dirty water once the grass gets in it clears up nicely. Aquia will have it all grass, wood, shallow water, deep water pilings, docks, etc. Goodluck and stay safe.

Yes gman teddy is very right. I have seen two much bigger bass boats sitting at Leesylvania State Park swamped. Full of water and the bilge pumps spewing water in the air. I fished it some in a 17 and a half foot Skeeter and on a couple of trips was not sure if I would get back to the boat ramp. The tide and wind can relay make it roll. Good fishing there though.
