I have an aluminum bass boat. The brackets for the bunk boards etc on the trailer are rusting away. Is it possible to use a jack and just barely push the boat up high enough to make the necessary repairs with new hardware. I have no real way of unloading the boat and doing the work with the boat in the water unless I just go to a public boat ramp and leave it in the water which isnt high on my list.

Hello lippers, I had to do some of the same repairs to my Skeeter boat trail. Yes it was a fiberglass haul. But I too tried to raise the boat with floor jacks and 2x4. I think it would have worked fine, but the boat was to unstable for me to fell comfortable working under it. So I had to do the later as you said. Public boat ramp. So hope this is some help to you.

I did a similar repair. I left the boat on the trailer and leave the trailer fully attached to your truck. Make sure you engage the parking brake and chock the trailer tires. This will keep th boat and trailer as stable as possible for doing the repairs - if you cant unload it in the water. Hope this helps.

it really depends on your boat.. if it more like a flat bottom boat, than all you have to do is use a floor jack with a 2x4 on it to prtect the bottom and provide stability to the boat then you can jack it off the trailer with ease. if its not falt, jack it up using the same method and place blocks under each side to support. for safety reasons it would be best to do it at the ramp if you can, or use a lift if you know somone that has one. mike c

I have lifted them with a tow strap - A good one - and an engine hoist to get it hig enough to block it up
