This is in addition to the 5/12 report - we had same conditions on sunday - very windy plus the pollen was killer on the eyes. When I say we I mean me and my 2 kids aged 9 and 12 - and I would let them fish against most adults who they could outcast and out fish most of the time. We spend 3 or 4 weekends a month on the lake out of High Point. Have done this for about 8 or 9 years. I got 5 keepers but it was "junk" fishing as Teddy said - I could not put a pattern together. I mostly fish from the Holladay Bridge and Stubbs Bridge to the dam - I love clear water and usually only venture up the rivers if I can't find fish downlake. 1st fish came on a pop-r near Holladay bridge - I thought maybe top water would be on but still a little early for that - about 1st week of June look out. Got 2 on what we call a "stupid stick" which is a BPS 4" split tail worm - albino shad - with tail dipped in spike it. This bait rigged weightless will catch a ton of fish in weeds, docks, rocks, stumps, u name it. I catch most of my fish on this year round. Nothing like seeing a big shadow explode on this little worm. I caught another on a crank in shallow water near power plant. My son also caught 1 on a crank in same area as well as a small striper. I caught the last one late in the day off a lay down in the Pamunkey on a white spinner bait. Nothing great but better than nothing (which we have had on Anna before).
The week before - 5/6/07 I caught 14 on the stupid stick and kids caught a bunch also.
Tomorrow - 5/20/07 - plan to go to same coves and flats near the dam and throw a pop r 1st. I just have to try it - I love the action. Probably will end up throwing a stupid stick around docks before day is over - may have to run up the pamunkey and try to crank some rocks before it is over.
I have watched this site for awhile - sometimes it is pretty dead - and it seems like no one wants to give up a pattern they got working. I used to race on dirt tracks for years and guys would give u the setup off their car to help you out and it seems like u can't get a fishing tip out of someone with a pair of split ring pliers. I am just as guilty of this as others since this is the most I have told anyone about our fishing lake anna since we have been going there. I hope it helps someone - by no means are we great fisherman - we just do it for fun and have had more bad days than good days but we can usually find a few fish.
Teddy Carr - I look forward to fishing with you someday - it is on my list of things to do. I went out with Dave Fauntleroy a few times years ago and he taught us alot about fishing Anna. I grew up fishing smallmouth in Lake Ontario - so this southern largemouth game was totally new to us. Anyways thanks for the help and I will catch up to u one of these days for a guided trip.
Tight lines - Bill
