Ok here is what I got - 14 bass total - launched at 7:00am from high pt. Caught 5 around 1 to 1.5 lbs before I started my big motor. Every once in a while I fish right at high pt before leaving. Started at the rip rap - caught 2 before I got to bridge went under bridge fished rip rap on that side - caught 2 more and caught 1 off the little wooden wall at the end of the rip rap. So its 8:15 and i had 5. all these on our stupid stick. There was little wind and no boat traffic early so this turned into a shallow stump pattern on main lake pts which got me 4 more before lunch time. We fished the points going from high pt down lake towards the dam. I missed a bunch I should have had too. After lunch it got warm - traffic picked up so we hit docks between dike 2 and 3. It didn't seem to matter how deep they were any where from 2 to 15 feet worked but the little pattern in this pattern was under the boats up on lifts that hadn't been in the water yet. I don't know why but thats where they were - they weren't hugging the dock legs like they do in summer. Caught 5 which were 3 to 4 lbs. Really nice fish - kids picked some up too. Actually seen a school of 8 to 10 fish all this size stacked up on one dock. Caught one of them but then the rest didn't want anything to do with us. But it was neat to see. The dock fish were all caught on 5" Kalin salt and pepper grubs with tails dipped in spike it.
Overall we had a great day - awesome weather - and good fishing. And nothing broke. Yea !

Glad you had a great day on the water Bill - thanks for the tips and pattern as well. I won't be able to fish until next weekend - but I'm hoping to get out mid week to avoid the long weekend crowd.

Wow that is a nice trip out - what is the "stupid stick" you mentioned that you caught the fish on? Hoping to get on Wednesday for a few hours.

stupid stick is a BPS 4" albino shad - rigged weightless - tail dipped in spike it - it is a split tail drop shot worm.

I am not familiar with this lure so pardon my dumb question; Is it salted and sink slowly or were using it more like a jerk bait

Here is the item # to it at BPS - I couldn't get a link to work
38-267-299-58
It is salted - I change the sink rate and depth I fish it at with the size of the hook - sometimes they will hit it like top water so I use a light 1 or 1/0 hook - Gamakatsu off set worm - red (in my opinion these are the best hooks going - super sharp and strong) this will make it skim across the top - Sunday they would come off the stump and just kill it. If I want to run it 5 or 6" deep over some submerged weeds I will use a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. What ever the depth I usually twitch it - u can give it different action by changing how you hook it - staight or crooked. I almost never fish it weighted - I am a sight fisherman and love to see the bass come get it. Now my kids will rig it texas with an 1/8 oz bullet weight and catch fish also - sometimes they out fish me - we won't talk about those days.
By no means am I an expert fisherman - this is just stuff I have tried along the way so take what ever I say for what its worth - which is about .02
We will probably skip Sat and Sun - go over Mon try some bass early - get minnows and find a spot out of the way and kick back for the holiday - catch some cats or crappie.
