First time out on Anna in 3 weeks. Had a great trip to the Matawaska River in Ontario Aug 7 - 14. It's an annual trip for me and my buddies from Cleveland. Smallies, and Pike were abundant, pickerel (walleye) were a little scarce - weather was hot up there this year (water in the low 80's) and we didn't have any rain or overcast skies like we usually do. Also - didn't catch as big as fish as other years... Now on to Anna -
Got on the water around 5:30 or so and was going to focus on 20' + water off main lake points near the splits - as I read and heard bass were hunkered down looking for the O2 in 85+ water temps. Found a point loaded with bait fish and large humps on the radar on the right side of the splits. Began throwing a DT10 and DT16 from shallow to deep. Caught a dink off a stump. I also rigged a drop shot, shakey head with a YUM ribbon-tail, and had a DD22 rigged for trolling...I fished around the point and trolled toward Jetts Island - which a number of others were doing as well. Saw lots of stuff on the radar - but nothing on the line..fished the shady side with all I had - only could muster a few ticks on the worm and a bluegill ate my DT 16.
Got real hot and real busy and I left around 11....I never want to wish my life away - but I'm looking forward to mid - late Sept - nights in the 50's - days in the 70's.....
